It has happened yet again – after a speech on etiquette yesterday, I was asked by several people if I teach etiquette for teens. I was reminded of another talk I gave last year when a security guard was called in to remove a cell phone from a teen, followed by the teen throwing his water bottle at the teacher. Seems teens need some help in the etiquette department. While I do work with teens sometimes, my immediate response is always the same: “Do you have Sunday dinner at your house?” If you do, you know how invaluable this can be. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but knives and forks are a good idea. I find that many youth don’t know how to hold utensils properly because most of the food they eat comes in a bag. I’m all for convenience, don’t get me wrong, but it is a shame to let our children flounder when it comes to dining etiquette. Let’s see, it seems to me I started a series of Sunday dinners when a certain person in my life picked up a baked potato and took a bite out of it. My work is never done. Cheers, Stephanie
